Columbia Gorge Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine offers therapeutic ultrasound for blocked milk ducts.
Research supports that ultrasound performed for two to three consecutive days immediately followed by nursing or pumping can help to clear a blocked milk duct with the goal of mastitis prevention.
The first treatment day consists of an evaluation and ultrasound treatment. An ultrasound treatment is then repeated on the second consecutive day and, if needed, additional days and treatments following.
The best results come from breastfeeding or pumping immediately following the treatment. Please either bring your baby (preferable for best results) or a pump. Optimal results occur the sooner you are able to come to treatments. We understand the urgency in this treatment and will make every effort to have you seen as soon as possible.
You do not need a referral to come to Columbia Gorge Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine for an ultrasound treatment. However, some insurance companies will not pay without a referral. Call your insurance company to ask if you need a referral for physical therapy services. We also offer a cash rate for ultrasound treatment.
