Post-operative physical therapy helps individuals recover from orthopedic and some general surgeries. Surgeons prescribe physical therapy for patients to help them return to their preinjury level of function or to improve their ability to function after a disability has been corrected through surgery.
Our highly experienced physical therapists will coordinate with your surgeon to fully understand your surgical procedure, any post-op restrictions, and the expectations of the surgical outcomes. Some surgeons have developed their own rehab protocol specifically for their patients. We follow these guidelines to maximize patients’ care. If the surgeon does not have a specific protocol, we will use the protocols we have designed based on the most up-to-date scientific research.
From there, we conduct an initial evaluation post-operatively and guide patients carefully along a path toward recovery using the most effective treatment interventions available. Taking a whole-body approach, we address all aspects of recovery, including sleep, nutrition, hydration, and pain management strategies. We also realize that communication with your surgeon is critical for the optimal recovery. So we communicate with your surgeon or referring physician regularly using a thorough progress report, which we send electronically to his or her office.
